The Catch: Fishing for Ted Hughes

An Online Reading and Discussion

In April 2022 the Ted Hughes Society hosted an online event for its members in which Mark Wormald (Chair, the Ted Hughes Society) gave the first public reading and discussion of his critically-acclaimed new book: The Catch: Fishing for Ted Hughes.

This event is now available to the public via the Society’s Youtube channel:

Introduced and moderated by Katherine Robinson, the event included contributions and responses from therapist and daughter of the artist Barrie Cooke, Aoine Landweer-Cooke, poet and priest Malcolm Guite, renowned mythologist and storyteller Martin Shaw and poet, critic and Ted Hughes scholar, Terry Gifford.

The Catch tells the story of Ted Hughes's journey, as a fisherman, poet and father, into and beyond the collection River (1983), and chronicles Mark's own journeys, fishing in Ted's footsteps, his fishing diaries in mind, into the poems of River and other deep waters.
